PERFECTION & HL BINGE

Hey, everyone!

I hope you've been having an amazing start to 2014. I have so much to blog about that my brain is on overload! I want to start by sharing another blog for the ladies.  Can I just say, I am SO OBSESSED with Heather Lindsey. Her post are CRAZY insightful, so down-to-earth, and make you really reconsider how you're living!

One topic that is on my heart tonight requires an internal look at the person you are striving to become. Take a second -- ask yourself: "What/Who am I striving to be?" If you're answer includes any of the following:
  • a woman that has all of society's desirable elements, qualities, and characteristics
  • a saint or saintly
  • an unsurpassable degree of accuracy or excellence
  • an exemplification of supreme excellence
  • free of setbacks or mistakes
  • FLAWLESS (sorry, ladies . . . Beyonce lied!)

THOSE ARE ALL CHARACTERISTICS OF PERFECTION -- IT'S SIMPLY UNATTAINABLE! I'm not perfect, and neither are you! Hate to break the news but . . . we never will be! Rather than striving for what you (or society) has deemed as "the perfect woman", try reaching out to God and start working at being the woman he's PERSONALLY CALLED YOU TO BE -- now that is perfection. Please do not confuse this with an excuse to live in sin! While we can't do it all, we can definitely strive to be all we have been created to be, and live life GOD's way.

In honor of my HL Binge, click on her beautiful photo below to check out an amazing article shedding light on the chase to be "the perfect woman".

Book Review: His Princess by Sheri Rose Shepherd

Happy Saturday!

I often post photos of scriptures and messages to my social media sites.  My posts with love letters from God always receive the most attention as so many of you ask "where on earth did you find such an amazing book?!"

For those who have not had the pleasure of seeing any excerpts via social media, the book I am referring to is called His Princess: Love Letters From Your King.  This book was crucial in the process of refocusing my life to be centered around Jesus Christ.
His Princess: Love Letters From Your King and my Journal
I actually received this book as a gift many years ago while in high school at about 15 years old.  I fell into a very tough space in 2013 after a car accident. I started having severe anxiety which began a year of major growth and transition for me (I will post more on this at a later date). I finally had it on my heart to open this book at 20-years-old.

From that day, I could not put it down. The book contains scripture-based letters written as if they were directly from God. Its endless topics are applicable to so many different areas of life. Some days, I honestly was convinced that God was adding in new letters just for me. It always felt as though he was directly speaking to me. It helped me truly meditate on his word and build a much more personal relationship with him.

TIP: Always begin by going to God in prayer. I always say a prayer repenting of my sins and asking God to lead me. Generally, I pray on specific situations.  Other times, I just ask Him to send me whatever I need to make it through the day.  I flip to a random page, read the letter, and take detailed notes on all of the main points. Next, I write down the scripture and meditate on it jotting down how it applies to my life, and what I can do to better follow that particular message.  Lastly, I go back to God in prayer using my notes to specifically touch on those individual points in my life asking him for help, guidance, and leaving the rest in his hands.

I am so thankful that Ms. Shepherd put together such a beautiful masterpiece. I still re-read it almost everyday and recommend it all the time.

Check out Sheri's site here to view the entire seven-book series, and find the book that best suits your needs. You can also find excerpts of the books as well until you decide to make a purchase.  The book is also available at Barnes & Noble.

I highly recommend this book to anyone.

Poetry

Hey, guys! Here's a piece I did towards the end of 2013.
Hope you enjoy

Soulmates

I walk this path alone.
Staring at the blank space beside my reflection.
As my emotions swell inside,
I release the pain behind my eyes…
My tears melt into the face before me–
breaking the shell staring back at me.

All of my concerns disappear when your presence is near.
Walking hand in hand, staring into the night sky…
Will you be mine?
Your gentle touch, the depth in your eyes;
The peace I feel as you hold me tight.

Reluctantly I take this path, praying that my emotions won’t fail me.
The sound of your warm voice comforting me.
Your smile, your faith, your strength.
I fear the end only to find a new beginning each day…
Deeper and deeper I fall; my soul filled with passion.
I welcome your embrace, placing my lips on yours.

Our strides move swiftly, but never look back.
Peering at my reflection, the space still remains.
Confused and frustrated I touch the reflection before me…
My hand immersed in the cool water, I close my eyes and shed a tear . . .
Only to find it streaming down your face.

I will not walk alone…
For those deep eyes stare back at me –
Your soul intertwined with mine reflecting the rays of our affection.
How long is forever?
I only pray that it is long enough to experience every piece of you…

My soul mate.
